Global automaker Stellantis and technology giant Microsoft on Thursday announced a five-year collaboration aimed at accelerating the carmaker’s use of artificial intelligence across its operations, customer services and vehicle technologies.
The partnership will focus on developing more than 100 AI-driven initiatives spanning product development, customer care and manufacturing processes.
“As AI rapidly advances, we have been early adopters across our business, from engineering and manufacturing to design and customer interaction, embedding AI directly into our vehicles, from the new digital cabin to the core vehicle operating system,” said Ned Curic, Stellantis Chief Engineering and Technology Officer.
As part of the initiative, Stellantis plans to deepen integration of AI into its vehicles and backend systems, including tools that can provide drivers with real-time recommendations for efficiency and vehicle health monitoring.
A major component of the collaboration is cybersecurity. Stellantis will establish an AI-powered global cyber defence centre to monitor and protect its IT infrastructure, connected vehicles, and digital platforms.
The system is expected to enhance threat detection capabilities and strengthen resilience against cyberattacks across its global operations.
“By combining Stellantis’ global scale and engineering expertise with Microsoft’s trusted cloud, AI and security platforms, we are delivering real value for millions of drivers worldwide,” said Judson Althoff, CEO of Microsoft’s Commercial Business.
The automaker is also undertaking a large-scale cloud modernisation effort using Microsoft’s Azure platform.
This includes a target to reduce its data centre footprint by 60 per cent by 2029, while improving system performance and enabling a more connected digital ecosystem across manufacturing, logistics and customer-facing services.
In addition, Stellantis is equipping its global workforce with enterprise-grade AI tools to enhance productivity and collaboration.
All employees currently have access to Copilot Chat, with an initial rollout of 20,000 Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses supporting select roles.
