Mysuru City Corporation has withdrawn its decision to impose a motor vehicle infrastructure cess on residents following public objections.

The Mysuru City Corporation on Friday said it has withdrawn its decision to levy an infrastructure (motor vehicles) cess in the city from this financial year. It attributed its decision to public objections and feedback. The civic body had announced that the city residents will have to pay the motor vehicle cess during property tax payment—₹500 for four-wheelers, ₹300 for three-wheelers and ₹200 for two-wheelers. The tax was directed to be collected based on the property identification number (PID).Following criticism, the administration has withdrawn its decision. The MCC said: “The urban body has opted to conduct a more detailed review of the potential impacts of this levy. Consequently, the administrator has officially withdrawn the proposed motor vehicle infrastructure cess.” Under Section 103-B of the Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act, 1976, city corporations are empowered to levy an annual infrastructure cess on motor vehicles suitable for use on city roads, it said. Following a resolution passed in a general council meeting and in line with practices in other municipal corporations, it was initially decided to base the cess on self-declared property tax information, it noted.
