All drivers who were investigated for breaching the yellow flag rules during Q1 have been cleared.
The stewards confirmed after qualifying no action would be taken against Yuki Tsunoda or Sauber drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto for potentially failing to slow for the yellow flags which were displayed at turn 11 near the end of the first round.
Two other drivers, George Russell and Lance Stroll, were also cleared of the same infringement during the session.
The stewards issued the same decision in the cases of each driver. “Race direction reported a possible yellow flag infringement,” they said. “However, telemetry data clearly shows that the driver reduced speed in the yellow flag zone.
“The stewards consistently regard such an action as a discernible reduction of speed in accordance with the requirements under yellow flag conditions and therefore take no further action.”
Russell went on to take pole position for the grand prix. Hulkenberg qualified 11th while Tsunoda, Bortoleto and Stroll took positions 15 to 17 respectively.
