Oliver Bearman, Haas, Monaco, 2026

The Haas drivers were not happy with each other during practice in Monaco, each accusing their team mate of spoiling their laps.

During the session Formula One Management broadcast radio from Oliver Bearman in which he called his team mate an “idiot”. He had just been passed by Esteban Ocon at the final corner, Anthony Noghes.

However Ocon had already complained Bearman had held him up twice during the first 15 minutes of the session.

Bearman led Ocon out of the pits as the session began. With the entire 22-car field circulating the 3.3-kilometre track at once, space was limited, and Bearman repeatedly backed out of flying lap attempts due to traffic.

At first, Bearman gained on another car approaching Rascasse and backed off before catching it. Ocon closed on him behind and had to slow down after trying to pass his team mate at Anthony Noghes.

Two laps later Bearman caught another car in the chicane by the harbour. This time he was significantly held up and backed out of his lap earlier than before.

Ocon caught Bearman at the Swimming Pool section and followed him until the end of the lap. His race engineer Laura Mueller advised him to “just back up a bit” from his team mate, but Ocon decided to overtake him instead.

“He doesn’t have to fuck my laps twice as well, you know, on the fast [laps],” said Ocon as he overtook Bearman into Anthony Noghes. “Yeah, understand,” she replied.

Bearman was not impressed. “What an idiot, man,” he told his race engineer. “That was so stupid from Esteban.”

The pair ended the session 16th and 17th in the times, Bearman just 0.041s faster than Ocon.
