Mick Schumacher will race full-time in IndyCar next year with Rahal Letterman Lanigan.
The former Haas Formula 1 driver and Ferrari Driver Academy member will return to single-seater racing after two seasons in the World Endurance Championship.
Schumacher said he is “immediately excited about the car and the American way of motorsport which comes across as being more about pure and direct racing, and it is precisely this aspect that I am very much looking forward to.”
“Having both an F1 and an endurance background, and having competed in various racing series over the years, I have insights and knowledge that I am sure will contribute to a great partnership,” he added. “RLL prepared me extremely well during testing already, and I am sure that we can build a lot together.”
Schumacher tested for RLL at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course last month. Afterwards he indicated he was considering a move into the series, saying: “IndyCar comes the closest to what I can still race.”
His team mates will be Graham Rahal, son of team co-owner and ex-IndyCar racer Bobby Rahal, and Louis Foster, the 2024 Indy Nxt champion who completed his rookie IndyCar season this year. The duo placed 19th and 23rd respectively in this year’s championship.
The 2026 IndyCar season features 17 races on a mixture of road, street and oval courses. They include the blue riband Indianapolis 500 which takes place at the end of May. Schumacher will make his debut in the season opener on the St Petersburg street course on March 1st.
Bobby Rahal said the team was impressed by Schumacher’s performance in October. “His test with us on the IMS road course was exceptional – he impressed every single team member.
“Everyone walked away from that event determined to do what we could to bring Mick into our programme. We’re thrilled he’s chosen to join us, and we can’t wait to get to work.”
