On this day in motorsport

- 25 years ago today Ralf Schumacher scored his first F1 victory, at Imola. It was also Williams’ first win for four seasons and Michelin’s first for 17 years.
- Born on this day in 1922: Graham Whitehead, one half of the first pair of brothers to compete in the world championship. He made a single start in the 1952 British Grand Prix and finished two places behind older brother Peter.
- 70 years ago today Juan Manuel Fangio won the non-championship Syracuse GP as Ferrari dominated. Team mate Luigi Musso finished 0.2s behind in second. “Just at this moment, Fangio is in need of money, he must win,” said Musso.
