India’s automobile sales in the financial year 2025-26 (FY26) continued to be driven by western and northern states, with Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh emerging as the largest contributors across key vehicle segments, according to the latest data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
In the passenger vehicle (PV) segment, SIAM data showed that India recorded 46.43 lakh units sold during FY26, with the western zone leading sales at 15.28 lakh units. Maharashtra accounted for the highest PV sales in the country at 5.64 lakh units, followed by Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
The two-wheeler segment continued to remain the largest contributor to overall volumes. SIAM said India sold 21.71 million two-wheelers in FY26, with the western zone leading at 7.11 million units. Uttar Pradesh topped the country with 3.18 million two-wheeler sales, followed by Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Karnataka.
In the three-wheeler segment, India recorded sales of 8.36 lakh units during FY26. SIAM data showed that the southern zone led with 2.57 lakh units, while Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest three-wheeler sales at 0.99 lakh units, followed by Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Bihar.
For the commercial vehicle (CV) segment, SIAM said India sold 10.80 lakh units in FY26, with the western zone leading sales at 3.98 lakh units. Maharashtra emerged as the top CV market with 1.61 lakh units, followed by Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka.
