India’s Formula Student competition, SUPRA SAEINDIA 2026, has entered its final four-month phase, with participating engineering teams transitioning from the design and simulation stage to vehicle fabrication and prototype development.

Organised by SAEINDIA, the 13th edition of the competition has drawn participation from 75 engineering institutions and more than 2,500 students across 16 states. The event includes separate Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and Electric Vehicle (EV) categories.

The organisers said the event continues to see strong support from across the automotive and mobility ecosystem, including vehicle manufacturers, component suppliers, simulation technology companies, testing agencies and academic institutions.

Industry-led technical training sessions by Ansys, now part of Synopsys, and Dassault Systèmes have recently concluded for participating teams. The programmes focused on simulation, CAD workflows, structural analysis, vehicle design validation and performance optimisation.
With the virtual design phase completed, teams are now working on fabrication, subsystem integration, testing and prototype development of their Formula Student race cars.

The next phase of the competition will include submission of design reports, cost and manufacturing reports, business presentation reports and technical query resolution sessions with expert evaluators.

According to the organisers, these stages are intended to assess engineering capability alongside project planning, manufacturability, business understanding, and cost-optimisation skills.

Key industry stakeholders supporting the event include Maruti Suzuki India Limited, Envision Racing, International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT), Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), ACMA Mobility Foundation and KIET University, among others.

The organisers said the competition has evolved into a broader industry-academia platform that connects students with emerging mobility technologies, motorsport engineering practices, and manufacturing approaches.

SUPRA SAEINDIA 2026 is scheduled to be held from September 2nd to 5th at the Buddh International Circuit.
