Responding to the appeal of the Prime Minister and the Chandigarh Administration’s call to observe Vehicle Free Day every Wednesday, students, teachers and administrative officials of Panjab University on Wednesday participated in the “Vehicle Free Wednesday” campaign across the university campuses in Sectors 14 and 25.
The initiative was launched following a meeting of university officers chaired by PU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig. Students, teaching and non-teaching staff were encouraged to avoid using personal vehicles on Wednesdays and instead make use of the free shuttle bus and e-rickshaw services operating within the campus.
Thanking participants for joining the day-long drive despite the scorching heat, Prof. Vig said feedback was being collected from stakeholders to make the initiative more successful and participative in the coming weeks.
Volunteers of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Panjab University, played an active role in the awareness campaign by motivating students, faculty members, employees and visitors to adopt eco-friendly modes of transport.
The campaign aimed to promote environmental sustainability, reduce vehicular pollution, conserve energy and encourage responsible civic behaviour within the university community.
