New Delhi: Odisha, which contributes about 72 per cent of India’s primary aluminium production, is now pushing to expand its downstream industry through the Angul Aluminium Park. The park, spread over 223 acres with plans to expand to 600 acres, was showcased at a roadshow in Bhubaneswar on September 23, 2025, as part of the state’s bid to position Angul as a strategic aluminium hub.The project is a joint venture between National Aluminium Company Ltd (NALCO) and Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) under the name Angul Aluminium Park Pvt Ltd (AAPPL). So far, three industries have already been set up in the park, while four more are in the pipeline.NALCO chairman and managing director Brijendra Pratap Singh said the park is equipped with world-class infrastructure including road connectivity, uninterrupted power and water supply, training centres, and laboratories. “NALCO has committed to supply 50,000 tonnes of hot metal annually to the downstream industries at the park. This will reduce their cost of production and increase competitiveness,” Singh said.Hemant Kumar Sharma, additional chief secretary (industries), said aluminium is the “metal of the future” and will be critical for sectors such as packaging, appliances, transport, electric vehicles and aerospace. “There is a huge scope for downstream aluminium industries to come up in Odisha. We invite investors to explore opportunities at Angul,” he said. The roadshow, which saw participation from over 100 industry representatives, included presentations from IPICOL, NALCO and JNARDDC on the downstream aluminium sector’s potential, policy support, and infrastructure.

Tata Steel SEZ managing director Manikanta Naik cited the example of the Gopalpur Industrial Park, which currently houses 14 industries across sectors such as chemicals, solar cells and green hydrogen. He said Angul has the potential to follow a similar trajectory of industrial growth.
