Laurent Mekies, Red Bull, Baku, 2025

Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies indicated the team will continue its late development push this year despite the looming regulations change for next season.

Max Verstappen closed to within 63 points of championship leader Oscar Piastri with his second-placed finish in Singapore as Red Bull continued their recent resurgence in form. It comes as the team has pressed on with development work on its 2025 car while its rivals are increasingly prioritising next year.

Red Bull has introduced upgrades for its RB21 in all of the last eight rounds. McLaren, who clinched the constructors’ championship last weekend, have only introduced a single upgrade package for their car over the last five rounds.

Although Verstappen finished second to surprise Singapore Grand Prix winner George Russell, he out-scored the championship-leading McLaren pair for the third event in a row. During his in-lap Mekies, indicated Red Bull will help him to keep the pressure up by bringing more upgrades over the coming races.

“We’ve made a step forward and we know we have more coming,” said Mekies. “So good stuff.”

Red Bull enjoyed one of their more competitive performances in Singapore of recent seasons. It was the only venue they failed to win at during their dominant 2023 campaign, Verstappen finishing fifth, and last year he was over 20 seconds behind winner Lando Norris at the chequered flag.
