Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, recently celebrated women’s week with a series of events and initiatives focused on empowering women and promoting gender inclusivity. The celebrations highlighted the company’s ‘Shakti Se Pragati’ campaign, which aims to empower women in various aspects of their lives. A key achievement was the launch of a women-operated smelter line at their Jharsuguda plant in Odisha.

30% women representation by 2030
The company’s goal is to achieve 30% female representation in its workforce by 2030. The initiatives included skill development programs, an inclusive employee handbook, financial literacy training, and self-defence workshops. The company also introduced a magasine and handbook promoting diversity and inclusion, alongside personalised uniforms for female employees.
Over 400 employees and partners participated in the women’s week celebrations at Vedanta Aluminium’s BALCO in Korba, Chhattisgarh. Padmashri Shamshad Begum shared her experience of empowering over 65,000 women, and over 80 women were recognised for their exceptional work. Personalised-fit uniforms were introduced, and a cultural night celebrating womanhood, inclusive of transgender employees, was organised.
