The advocate general and several senior lawyers also participated by walking to the premises, while others opted for video conferencing.

Chief Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta and other judges of the Uttarakhand High Court went to the court on foot on Friday to observe ‘No-Vehicle Day‘ following a national appeal for fuel conservation.

The initiative saw judges, court officials, employees, and members of the High Court Bar Association ditching personal vehicles to promote environmental and resource sustainability.

Justice Gupta said the symbolic effort aimed to contribute to the nation during the ongoing global oil crisis. He appealed to all stakeholders to reach the court on foot, by bicycle, or via alternative means whenever possible.

He noted that awareness regarding fuel conservation would remain a continuous process rather than a single-day campaign.

The high court is also encouraging virtual court arrangements for advocates and litigants travelling from remote areas to reduce fuel consumption.

Justice Rakesh Thapliyal added that walking or cycling over long distances is beneficial for health and reduces pollution.

The advocate general and several senior lawyers also participated by walking to the premises, while others opted for video conferencing.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had appealed for cutting down fuel consumption and spending more wisely, including limited use of vehicles.
