Yuki Tsunoda, Lance Stroll, Interlagos, 2025

Yuki Tsunoda admitted he missed another chance to score points in the Brazilian Grand Prix, as doubt persists over his future.

Red Bull has only confirmed one of the four drivers across its two teams for next year: Max Verstappen. Tsunoda’s future at Red Bull is unclear as the team weighs up promoting Isack Hadjar or Liam Lawson from junior squad Racing Bulls as a replacement.

Since he was promoted to Red Bull in place of Lawson 19 rounds ago, Tsunoda has only scored points in six rounds. He failed to add to his total in the last two events.

His performance in Mexico was compromised as Red Bull ran him on a strategy designed to help Verstappen in the title fight. However Tsunoda caused his own problems in Brazil where he spun in practice, damaging his front wing, and collided with Lance Stroll early in the grand prix.

“I’m sure the last race in Brazil was a race that I could score points easily as well,” Tsunoda told the official Formula 1 channel. “I think around P8, P7 could be easily possible. Even before that, Mexico as well.

“So just so far [I’ve] missed out those things for a couple of reasons. I’m sure at the last race obviously my front wing didn’t help as well but also some other things that I couldn’t control made me in that position how I ended up.

“At least the good news is the pace is there and so far every race […] easily you can see that I’m able to score points and that’s the most important thing. I just [need to] put it all together and I just have the same target as usual for the next three races.”

With every other seat taken on the 2026 F1 grid, Tsunoda’s only chance of remaining in F1 next year is within the Red Bull operation. He said “I don’t have any opinion” where he goes.

“It’s just like, what’s the point, first of all, imagining those points? I’m just fully motivated to give my efforts and I just want to score points as much as possible.”

“So far all I know is a decision is not made yet,” he said, noting reports the team would make a decision between the Mexican and Brazilian rounds “was not true.”

“Let’s see. It’s just the same, I’m giving my full effort and all I can do is that. [For] those things I can’t control anyway. All I’ve got to do is just enjoy each grand prix and just give the best I can, which I normally do and always do so.”
