SCiB batteries are recognised for their high safety, rapid charging, robust input/output capabilities, and wide usable state-of-charge range, making them suitable for mobility, industrial, and energy storage solutions.

Toshiba, a Japanese multinational electronics company, on Friday said it has launched its latest SCiB 24V battery pack (P25H20-3), a lithium-ion solution designed for automotive, marine, and heavy equipment applications. The battery offers a lighter, more efficient, and longer-lasting alternative to conventional lead-acid batteries, while reducing environmental impact. The SCiB 24V has already been deployed in Yamaha Motor’s ‘e-Float Terrace’, an electric sightseeing boat set to start cruises in Yokohama’s Minato Mirai district this October. The vessel’s HARMO electric propulsion system uses twenty-four SCiB 24V packs configured as two sets of 2 in series and 6 in parallel, delivering 48V and 11.52 kWh. The move is part of Yamaha’s efforts to promote sustainable urban tourism and decarbonise marine transport.

Seamless Lead-Acid Replacement

While lead-acid batteries remain popular for their low cost and high current output, Toshiba’s SCiB 24V, equipped with 20Ah-HP SCiB cells, meets the Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS D 5301) D23 size, allowing easy replacement of 24V lead-acid units.

The battery can operate as a standalone unit or be configured in series and parallel — up to 2 in series and 6 in parallel — to suit diverse power requirements. It is capable of high-load operations, including engine starting, making it suitable for marine vessels, commercial vehicles, and heavy construction or agricultural machinery.

Reliability and Performance

Toshihiko Takaoka, Vice President of Toshiba’s Battery Division, highlighted the pack’s low-temperature performance, vibration resistance, and waterproofing certified to IPX9K and IPX7 standards.

“Its long-life performance reduces maintenance needs, making it ideal for electric boats and other demanding applications,” he said.

SCiB batteries are recognised for their high safety, rapid charging, robust input/output capabilities, and wide usable state-of-charge range, making them suitable for mobility, industrial, and energy storage solutions.

Supporting Sustainable Mobility

The Yamaha partnership illustrates Toshiba’s commitment to cleaner and more efficient energy solutions, while the SCiB 24V expands the adoption of lithium-ion technology across multiple sectors. Toshiba aims to continue growing its SCiB lineup, driving environmentally responsible innovation in automotive, marine, and heavy equipment industries globally. With the SCiB 24V, Toshiba strengthens its position as a provider of high-performance, sustainable lithium-ion batteries capable of meeting diverse and demanding operational needs.
