George Russell gave a withering response to his latest run-in with Max Verstappen during the Mexican Grand Prix.
The Mercedes driver lost out badly when Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton went side-by-side into the slow turn four on lap six. The two cars ahead had made contact at turn one and Verstappen had cut across the inside of turn three.
At turn four, Hamilton went very deep and rejoined further on. Verstappen did not go as far off and pulled back onto the track alongside Russell, forcing him wide at the exit of turn five.
That allowed Oliver Bearman to pass both of them while Russell also lost another position to his team mate Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
After the dust had settled an unimpressed Russell told his race engineer Marcus Dudley: “This kid’s a fucking joke!”
“Reminds me of my first ever go-kart race,” Russell added.
The pair have clashed several times already this year, most notably in Spain. On that occasion Russell accused Verstappen of deliberately crashing into him in an incident which earned the Red Bull driver a 10-second time penalty and three penalty points on his licence.
Red Bull have twice tried to have Russell penalised after a race for incidents involving Verstappen. In Miami they claimed he failed to slow sufficiently for yellow flags and in Canada they made two complaints over his driving under Safety Car conditions. None of them were successful.
However Hamilton was the focus of Verstappen’s attention during the incident on lap six last weekend. “Lewis definitely gained an advantage with all this,” said Verstappen after their clash. Hamilton claimed he “got pushed wide” by Verstappen, but the stewards ruled against him, issuing a 10-second time penalty for the incident at turn four.
