  • The Porsche Cayenne Electric comes with a curved OLED panel that blends seamlessly into the center console, called the Flow Display. It’s part of the largest display area ever installed in a Porsche.
  • The most important controls are always within reach, Porsche says, while the display elements at the top are always in the driver’s field of vision.
  • And it still keeps a good amount of physical controls, too.

Porsche really wants you to know that this new Cayenne Electric is more than just a bigger Macan Electric. The latter is a solid, strong-performing electric crossover that moves one of Porsche’s most important models into the post-gas era; the Cayenne is shaping up to be a high-tech flagship that does things no Porsche has done before.

Case in point: the new Flow Display, the OLED central screen and software system debuting on the Cayenne Electric. I haven’t seen it in person yet, but from the photos and information Porsche released today, it looks like it’ll put in-car screens on a different level.

The touchscreen is installed vertically, featuring a rounded bend at the bottom. This divides the screen into an upper display area and a lower control area. And as you can see from these photos, the various screen menus also curve along with the display itself, creating an effect I’ve never quite seen in any car before.

“The Flow Display transforms the user interface into an intuitive, visually ‘flowing’ operating experience,” Porsche said. It’s certainly a novel way to interact with Porsche Android Automotive OS-based software, which here has been reworked from the Macan Electric with minimalist graphics and dynamic animations.

Porsche’s not saying how big that screen is, perhaps in part because the bend makes it tough to measure. But there’s still a 14.25-inch display for the instrument cluster, a head-up display like in the Macan Electric, and an optional 14.9-inch passenger display if you need to give that person something to do.

As fancy as it looks, Porsche says it’s prioritizing driver engagement and ease of use here. There are still physical tab-like buttons for the air conditioning controls, a rocker switch for the volume, and easily reachable defroster switches. That’s a nice touch. You also get the familiar Porsche steering wheel setup, which, while minimalistic, is perfectly functional when all your favorite presets are dialed in.

As my German colleagues report, there’s even a little pad on the right side where you can rest your hand. Porsche calls this a “Ferry Pad,” named after the son of the Porsche founder, who led the company from 1944 to 1972. Apparently, he liked to rest his hand on the center console like that, and now you can too.

So what else do you get here in terms of tech? Well, the Cayenne Electric also packs an Unreal Engine 3D display of the vehicle itself that can operate various functions from the screen, like Tesla and many Chinese automakers use. There’s an App Center with built-in video gaming, an AI-powered “Voice Pilot” system that Porsche says can understand complex questions, the integration of your Apple or Android smartphone as a key, and a host of other features. Don’t forget wireless charging, too.

Nobody buys a Porsche because of the way the screen looks or feels. But the Cayenne Electric has tough competition from China’s best, and it’s clearly designed to bring the German brand’s technology game to the next level. I’m excited to see more from this thing soon.

The Cayenne Electric should debut in full later this year and go on sale in 2026.
