Basic pay for more than 1.09 lakh employees of Tamil Nadu’s state-run transport corporations will go up by 6 per cent with arrears paid in four quarterly instalments starting Sept 2024, as per the 15th wage revision settlement finalized on Thursday.
The revision will benefit 48,000 drivers, 42,800 conductors, 13,000 workshop staff, and 2,500 others across all state transport undertakings. The salary hike will translate into a monthly increase ranging from 1,420 to 6,460 depending on grade. As part of the agreement, several allowances have been increased. Dearness allowance has been revised from 140 to 160, special allowance from 16 to 21, and shift allowance from 9 to 14.
Revised night halt allowance now ranges from 31 to 37 in other states and 34 to 35 in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, depending on the availability of rest facilities. In hilly areas, revised night halt allowances will be up to 37.
Daily wages have been revised to 500 for men and transgender workers, and 350 for women. Marriage loans have been doubled to 1 lakh, and festival advances raised to 20,000.
Children of employees will continue to receive free student bus passes until the end of their course, even in the event of the employee’s death or retirement. Family travel passes on all category buses will remain valid, with the fare difference payable where applicable.The meeting, held at the MTC training centre in Koyambedu, was chaired by Transport Minister S S Sivasankar and attended by senior IAS officers and union representatives.
