Africa-focused electric mobility company Spiro on Tuesday appointed former Indofast Energy CEO Anant Badjatya as its Group Chief Executive Officer, strengthening its leadership team as it expands operations across the continent.

Badjatya brings more than two decades of experience across the electric mobility, energy and industrial sectors in India, the Middle East and Africa.

Most recently, he led Indofast Energy, the joint venture between IndianOil and SUN Mobility, overseeing the development of a battery-swapping network of more than 1,800 stations serving around 90,000 vehicles daily.

The leadership change comes after Spiro recently secured a $215 million financing round. The company said Badjatya will oversee operations spanning battery swapping, leasing, logistics, energy and vehicle manufacturing as it expands its electric mobility business across Africa.

“Anant will consolidate the Group’s strategic initiatives and guide the company through its next chapter of growth and execution in mobility, energy and tech,” said Gagan Gupta, Founder and Chairman of Spiro.

Badjatya will lead the company’s next phase of expansion as it seeks to scale its electric mobility operations across Africa, the company noted.

Africa represents the most exciting frontier for electric mobility,” said Anant Badjatya on his appointment.
