The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has launched the National Road Accident Reduction Challenge 2026 under its flagship “सुरक्षित सफर (Safe Journey)” initiative, aimed at promoting road safety and encouraging college students to submit innovative, implementable solutions. The nationwide competition is open to undergraduate students from recognised institutions across India and invites teams to develop practical, field-ready ideas to help reduce road accidents and fatalities. Teams must comprise two to four students and be supported by faculty or institutional endorsement.According to SIAM, the initiative aims to leverage the creativity and problem-solving skills of young citizens to address real-world road-safety challenges, in line with national efforts to reduce road accidents.“In India, around 485 people lose their lives every day due to road accidents,” said Prashant K Banerjee, Executive Director, SIAM. “This challenge is designed to channel the creativity and responsibility of young minds into solutions that can be implemented on the ground.”
Suzuki Motorcycle India has partnered with the initiative as part of its road-safety-focused corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts. Devashish Handa, Executive Officer at Suzuki Motorcycle India, said student-led innovation could play a meaningful role in improving road-safety outcomes in the country.
