Madhya Pradesh has one public EV charging station for 175 vehicles. Total number of public EV charging stations installed in MP is 1,147. EVs registered in MP are over 2 lakh.

The state stands on ninth position in EV charging stations in the country. The states above MP in number of EV charging stations in the country are Karnataka, Maharashtra, UP, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Kerala and Gujarat respectively, as per govt in Rajya Sabha.

The figure on public EV charging stations was shared by the union govt after Kartikeya Sharma of IND from Haryana raised a question in Rajya Sabha on Aug 1 on the current number of EV charging stations installed across the country, state-wise and the average charge time observed at these facilities.Whether the govt has introduced any guideline for standardization of EV charging infrastructure, accessories, technology and batteries in the country. The number of new charging stations proposed for installation during the current financial year, along with funding and implementation mechanisms.The minister of state for heavy industries Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma stated in a written reply that as per the inputs received from ministry of power (MoP), 29,277 public EV charging stations (EVCS) have been installed in the country.

An allocation of ₹2,000 crore has been made under the PM E-Drivescheme to support the “setting up of adequate public charging infrastructure for various categories of electric vehicles” on a pan-India basis in consultation with ministries, states and other stakeholders as per ministry of power (MoP) “guidelines for installation and operation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure-2024” on Sept 17, 2024.

In separate information shared in Rajya Sabha in April this year it was informed that Madhya Pradesh stands on eighth position in the country in accidents involving electric vehicles. In 2024, at least 89 lives were claimed in MP in road accidents involving electric vehicles, while 868 people suffered injuries. Total number of electric vehicle accidents was 663.Other states with EV related deaths above MP were Bihar (230 deaths), Maharashtra (154 deaths), Rajasthan (144 deaths), West Bengal (133 deaths), Assam (117 deaths) and Karnataka (99 deaths).

A positive trend witnessed in MP was the number of accidents involving electric vehicles and deaths due to it had come down in the past three years- 2022, 2023 and 2024.

In 2022, the total number of EV accidents in MP was 1067, which claimed 250 lives. It came down in 2023 when the number of road accidents involving electric vehicles was 670 that claimed 140 lives while in 2024, the number of accidents were 663 and 89 lives were claimed.
