Oliver Bearman, Haas, Miami International Autodrome, 2025

Oliver Bearman has lost the point he scored after climbing from 19th on the grid in the Miami sprint race.

The stewards penalised the Haas driver five seconds after they ruled his team released him unsafely from his pit box during the race. Bearman was sent into the path of Nico Hulkenberg.

“Car 87 [Bearman] was released into the path of car 27 [Hulkenberg] which was arriving in the fast lane, causing car 27 to brake and take evasive action,” the stewards noted.

Bearman’s penalty is less severe than the 10-second penalty Max Verstappen received for the same infringement during the race. The consequences of Red Bull’s error were more serious, however, as he made contact with Andrea Kimi Antonelli.

Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu said it was a close call but the team took responsibility for the error. “Ollie had an amazing sprint [race], coming back from the back to P8. It’s sad that we got a penalty for an unsafe release, it was marginal, but of course it’s our mistake.”

The penalty drops Bearman from eighth place to 14th in the provisional classification. Yuki Tsunoda, who started from the pit lane, is promoted to eighth place.

The stewards are still considering incidents involving two other drivers who finished in the points: Fourth-placed Alexander Albon and Liam Lawson, who came seventh.
