Lando Norris, McLaren, Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, 2025

Lando Norris laughed off the boos which greeted his dominant Mexican Grand Prix victory from some sections of the crowd.

The McLaren driver scored the most dominant victory of the season so far at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez on Sunday, finishing half a minute ahead of his closest rival. However some in the crowd booed him when he was interviewed in the stadium after the race.

Norris made light of it afterwards. “People can do what they want, honestly,” he said. “They have the right to do it if they want to do it, I think that’s sport sometimes.

“I don’t know why, I can’t stop laughing when I get booed. I think it makes it more entertaining for me. So they can keep doing it if they want.”

However, he admitted: “Of course, you don’t want it. I prefer it if people cheer for me.

“But I don’t know, who knows? I just concentrate on doing my thing. It was the same in, what, Monza and a few other places.”

One local journalist claimed Norris was targeted by those who disagreed with McLaren’s team orders at the Italian Grand Prix. McLaren ordered Piastri to let his team mate by after giving him the opportunity to pit first despite being the second of their cars, on the understanding they would preserve the running order, only for Norris to drop behind due to a slow pit stop.

“If they want to think that, then they certainly have the right to,” Norris responded. “They can think whatever they want.

“From us as a team, of course we try and do things fairly. That was the comment we made back then.

“[It was] the same with [last year] in Budapest when I could have won the race and had to let Oscar back through and let him win a race he deserved to win. It was no different to that really. It was an incorrect decision that we made as a team to box him first.”

“To be honest, if [they] want to have the three points, they can,” he added. “But they have the right to think whatever they want. But, like Oscar deserved the win last year in Budapest, I deserved to be ahead at Monza. Simple as that.”
