The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) exceeded its highway construction target and achieved record capital expenditure in the 2024-25 financial year, according to an official statement released on April 2. According to PTI, NHAI built 5,614 km of national highways, surpassing the 5,150 km target. The organisation also reached an all-time high capital expenditure of over ₹2,50,000 crore, exceeding the targeted ₹2,40,000 crore. This record capital expenditure includes both government funding and NHAI’s own resources. It represents a substantial increase compared to previous years. The expenditure increased by about 21 per cent compared to ₹2,07,000 crore in 2023-24 and by approximately 45 per cent compared to ₹1,73,000 crore in 2022-23.NHAI utilised three monetisation methods: Toll Operate Transfer (TOT), Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvIT), and Toll Securitisation. These methods helped contribute to the overall financial performance.During the financial year, NHAI monetised assets for a total of ₹28,724 crore. This amount includes a record single-round InvIT receipt of ₹17,738 crore, marking a significant achievement for NHAI in asset monetisation.

The substantial increase in capital expenditure compared to the two preceding financial years highlights the accelerated pace of highway development.
