The state transport dept Friday issued new guidelines for vehicle owners seeking restoration of registration certificates (RCs) that were earlier suspended during enforcement drives.
An order issued by transport commissioner Purusottam Sharma said the guidelines aim to simplify the existing procedure and prevent unnecessary hardship for vehicle owners.
According to the new norms, vehicles seized during enforcement drives, or those whose RCs were suspended, may be released to the owner after payment of the compounding fee for unauthorised alterations. The owner must also submit a written undertaking to rectify the identified defect or alteration within the stipulated time.After the defect or alteration is rectified, the vehicle can undergo physical inspection either at the District Transport Office (DTO) that suspended the RC or at any other DTO in the state.If the inspection is conducted at a different DTO, the transport inspector or sub-inspector at that office will examine the vehicle and issue a certificate confirming that the defect or alteration has been rectified. The certificate must be signed by the inspecting officer.
The district transport officer of the inspecting office will then forward the certificate to the DTO that suspended the RC.
“On receipt of the certificate, the district transport officer who has suspended the registration certificate will initiate the process for restoration of registration in accordance with applicable rules,” the guidelines stated.
