Electric vehicles plying on Bandra-Worli Sealink (BWSL) may also get a toll exemption like those plying on Atal Setu, Pune Expressway and Samruddhi Mahamarg. The move to offer toll waiver to EVs on these projects is aimed at promoting EV use that would cost state coffers ₹3,000 crore over five years. A policy decision in this regard was taken a few days ago at the state cabinet.The Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy 2025, approved by the state cabinet on April 29, aims to promote EV adoption, reduce carbon emissions, and establish the state as a leading EV manufacturing hub and hence these decisions, officials said. Of the 60,000 vehicles that use the sea link every day, around 8per cent are EVs, according to officials.“If at all a decision to include BWSL has to be implemented we will have to amend the toll notification along with those of other three projects, the Atal Setu, Pune E-way and Samruddhi. After we exempted EVs from toll on the key expressways recently, there was a demand for an exemption on the BWSL too. It has been in-principle approved by the government ,” a senior state official said.
