Maruti Suzuki India on Thursday said it has commenced its flagship ‘Jagriti’ programme aimed at promoting safe driving practices and health awareness among truck drivers associated with its logistics partners.

The five-day initiative, running from March 23 to March 28, is part of the company’s broader road safety and sustainability efforts.

The programme is being conducted at Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar facility in Haryana, starting March 23, and at Hansalpur, Gujarat, from March 24 onwards. It covers drivers involved in transporting finished vehicles and spare parts.

Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India said that regular training and reinforcement of safe driving practices is critical due to the nature of the drivers’ work.“Truck drivers spend long hours on the road, travelling across the country. They drive large trucks and trailers, whose safe handling has a direct bearing on road safety. Therefore, it is essential to regularly train them and reinforce the importance of consistently following safe driving practices,” he said.Takeuchi said that the programme will include sessions on defensive driving, the dangers of over-speeding, the importance of adequate sleep, avoiding driving under the influence of alcohol, seatbelt usage, and regular maintenance of carriers to prevent breakdowns.

The company said nearly 4,000 truck drivers are expected to benefit from the initiative.
