Shares of Maruti Suzuki India and Eicher Motors surged up to 4% on Monday, after the automakers reported steady sales and exports growth in January, signaling sustained demand in the automotive sector. Maruti Suzuki’s stock rose 4% to INR 13,431.6 on the BSE, while Eicher Motors climbed 3% to INR 5,550.

Maruti Suzuki India, the largest carmaker in the country, reported impressive sales growth in January 2025. The company sold a record 212,251 units during the month, marking its highest-ever monthly sales. This figure includes the highest-ever domestic sales of 177,688 units, sales to other OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) of 7,463 units, and 27,100 units in exports. The total sales represent a 6.5% increase compared to 199,364 units sold in January 2024.

On the domestic front, Maruti’s passenger vehicle sales stood at 173,599 units, reflecting a 4.1% increase from 166,802 units in the previous year. Overall domestic sales, including light commercial vehicles (LCVs), rose by 4.3% to 177,688 units. The company’s export sales saw a notable rise of 13.2%, with 27,100 units shipped abroad. Sales to other OEMs were up 42.7%, reaching 7,463 units.

Meanwhile, Eicher Motors, the parent company of Royal Enfield, reported a 20% increase in total motorcycle sales, reaching 91,132 units in January, up from 76,187 units in the same period last year. Sales for Royal Enfield rose 6% year-over-year to 727,000 units, while exports nearly doubled to 11,575 units.

The latest figures follow Eicher Motors’ strong performance in December 2024, when it reported a 25% year-on-year (YoY) jump in total motorcycle sales, reaching 79,466 units. The company’s international business saw an even stronger surge, recording 90% growth with 17,575 units sold during the month.

Royal Enfield continues to dominate the above-250cc motorcycle segment in India, driven by frequent new launches, including the Guerilla 450, Bear 650, and Classic 650. The brand is also making strides in the EV space, recently unveiling its new electric vehicle (EV) brand, Flying Flea, with models expected to launch in early 2026.

On the other hand, Hero MotoCorp, the world’s largest motorcycle and scooter manufacturer, recorded total sales of 442,873 units in January 2025, a 2.13% increase from the 433,598 units sold a year earlier. Domestic sales stood at 412,378 units, while exports more than doubled to 30,495 units, a 141% jump compared to January 2024. The company attributed this surge to strong demand from international markets, particularly Bangladesh and Colombia.

In the electric vehicle (EV) segment, Hero’s VIDA brand saw robust traction, with 6,669 units of the newly launched VIDA V2 electric scooter dispatched during the month. Investors will also keep an eye on the company’s board meeting scheduled for February 6, 2025, where it will consider unaudited financial results for the quarter and nine months ending December 31, 2024.

The meeting follows the board’s recent decision to appoint Vikram Kasbekar as acting CEO, effective May 1, 2025, after Niranjan Gupta’s planned departure.
