Maruti Suzuki India on Friday commissioned seven Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) in Tamil Nadu in partnership with the state’s Transport Department, strengthening its road safety push under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. The ADTTs were inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin via video conferencing at Regional Transport Offices in Coimbatore (Central), Tiruvannamalai, Krishnagiri, Madurai (North), Sivagangai, Dindigul and Tiruchirappalli (West). The initiative forms part of a Memorandum of Agreement between Maruti Suzuki and the Tamil Nadu Transport Department to automate a total of 10 driving test tracks across the state. The company said it has automated all 10 ADTTs within a record 150 days, with facilities at Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Marthandam set to become operational shortly. The ADTTs are equipped with high-definition cameras, RFID sensors, real-time analytics and an integrated IT system to enable a standardised, technology-driven and objective driving licence testing process. The system eliminates human intervention and automatically generates test results in line with Central Motor Vehicle Rules.Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said the deployment of 10 ADTTs in Tamil Nadu is aimed at strengthening driver licensing evaluation through a comprehensive and transparent assessment process. He added that eliminating human bias ensures that only skilled drivers are awarded licences.Citing data from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, the company noted that India witnessed 1.77 lakh road accident deaths in 2024, underlining the need for rigorous driver evaluation and disciplined driving practices.

With the addition of Tamil Nadu, Maruti Suzuki now has fully automated 56 ADTTs across eight states, including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Jammu & Kashmir. The company has also signed agreements to set up 21 ADTTs in Rajasthan and four in Andhra Pradesh, taking its planned nationwide footprint to 81 ADTTs.

Beyond ADTTs, Maruti Suzuki said it promotes road safety through initiatives spanning engineering, education, evaluation, enforcement and emergency care, including Institutes of Driving and Traffic Research, Road Safety Knowledge Centres and Integrated Traffic Safety Management Systems.
