Carlos Sainz Jnr, Williams, 2025

Carlos Sainz Jnr admitted he is extremely frustrated with his lack of results so far this year since joining Williams.

With one round left before the summer break, Sainz lies 16th in the championship. His team mate Alexander Albon is eighth, with 54 points to Sainz’s 16.

Sainz said he expected it would take time to adjust to his new team after four years at Ferrari. But although he’s found “plenty of positives” in Williams’ approach and preparation for next year, he said the results so far haven’t been good enough.

“Everything that has happened actually on-track in terms of results has been incredibly frustrating and very disappointing,” he told the official Formula 1 channel.

“I expected, after a good adaptation period with the car, to start getting results pretty quickly given how competitive and how fast I’ve been this year. But, for certain reasons, results are not coming and that frustrates me.

“But I’m sure it will come at a point in the season.”

Last weekend Sainz rebounded from a disrupted single practice session to qualify well for the sprint race, in which he finished sixth. However he dropped out in the first round of qualifying for the grand prix and was unable to make progress after switching to a wet weather set-up for Sunday’s race.

Sainz said he hopes a return to the regular race weekend format at the Hungaroring will give Williams a chance to better understand the upgrades they brought to the last race. “I think it’s a weekend that is a good track to test, a track that all teams know very well,” he said.

“Running the upgraded car has also led us to maybe a bit of a different set-up direction for the future so it’s important this weekend that we get to understand those. We saw from the sprint [race] to the [grand prix] when we did a few set-up changes that didn’t do what we expected to the car and now we need to understand that.”
