New Delhi: Kia India has expanded its road safety initiative ‘Buckle Up’ with the launch of Phase II, targeting wider awareness among young drivers and strengthening infrastructure across key regions. The company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Social Lab Foundation (TSL) to scale the programme across Delhi–NCR and Uttarakhand over the next two years. The second phase of the initiative was inaugurated by Ajay Tamta, Minister of State in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), at Transport Bhawan in New Delhi.Under Phase II, the programme will engage nearly 20,000 students across 100 colleges through simulator-based experiential learning modules and targeted road safety awareness campaigns. The initiative will also focus on strengthening road safety infrastructure by installing additional crash barriers at high-risk locations, including in Gurugram and along the Delhi–Uttarakhand highway. The expansion builds on the outcomes of Phase I, which ran from February 2024 to February 2026. During this period, Kia India partnered with Gurugram Traffic Police to address road safety through infrastructure improvements and awareness programmes. As part of the initiative, 750 crash barriers were installed across high-risk stretches in Gurugram. In addition, road safety education programmes were conducted in 100 schools, reaching nearly 32,000 students. The company said the programme combines physical infrastructure improvements with behavioural awareness initiatives to create a scalable model for community-led road safety.
Tae-Jin Park Sood, senior executive at Kia India, said safety remains a core pillar of the company’s mobility vision. He added that the second phase will focus on reaching young and first-time drivers while strengthening on-ground safety interventions.
Apoorva Sharma, Executive Director of The Social Lab Foundation, said the partnership with Kia India had created a strong operational base through targeted infrastructure improvements and school-level engagement in Phase I, and Phase II would build on these learnings to expand the programme across new geographies and age groups.
