JSW Energy on Thursday said it signed a power purchase agreement with the state electricity company of West Bengal for a new 1,600 MW (2×800 MW) super/ultra super critical thermal power plant.

This is the largest greenfield capacity and power purchase agreement signed by JSW Energy, the company said in a regulatory filing.

Additionally, for its Utkal thermal power plant (2×350 MW) in Odisha, the company has received the commercial operation date certificate for Unit 2. “This project is poised to significantly boost local employment opportunities and contribute to the region’s economic growth, while ensuring a stable and reliable power supply for years to come,” it said.

The plant will utilise domestic linkage coal allocated to West Bengal. The company has commissioned Unit-2 of the Utkal thermal power plant.
