The traffic wing of the Jaipur Commissionerate is set to install digital billboards at major intersections to identify vehicles with pending traffic challans and recover unpaid fines from defaulters. The Commissionerate on Monday signed an MoU with two organisations — Crash Free India (CFI) and EVA Bharat — to install the billboards at key intersections. The move comes after earlier efforts such as home visits to collect outstanding penalties. The new system will use technology to display real-time information based on a vehicle’s registration number.According to officials, the billboards will show details including the amount and duration of pending challans, the validity of the vehicle’s pollution under control (PUC) certificate and the status of its insurance.”The system will generate real-time alerts for traffic police personnel deployed on the ground. This will enable officers to identify vehicles involved in serious or habitual traffic violations, allowing them to intercept such vehicles at the next checkpoint and take appropriate enforcement action,” said a senior traffic official.

Officials said the initiative aims to encourage vehicle owners to comply with traffic rules and clear pending penalties.

“The initiative aims to encourage vehicle owners and drivers to demonstrate a sense of responsibility by ensuring the validity of their vehicle’s PUC and insurance, as well as by settling any pending challans,” another official said.

Apart from traffic monitoring, the billboards may also be used for advertisements, creating a potential source of revenue for the department.

Officials said a pilot project will begin at two intersections, and if successful, similar billboards may be installed at more locations across the city.
