IndiGo on Tuesday filed a lawsuit against Mahindra Electric Automobile Limited over the use of “6E” in its new electric vehicle, the BE 6E.
The lawsuit, filed in the Delhi High Court, alleges trademark infringement.
The case was briefly before Justice Amit Bansal on Tuesday but the judge recused himself. The next hearing is scheduled for December 9. IndiGo’s lawyer, Sandeep Sethi, told the court that Mahindra had contacted the airline to discuss the matter, according to the Bar and Bench report.
IndiGo uses “6E” as its callsign and a key part of its brand, including services like 6E Prime and 6E Flex. The airline registered the trademark “6E Link” in 2015 for various uses, including advertising and airline services.
Mahindra Electric recently received trademark approval for “BE 6e” in class 12, covering various motor vehicles, as per the Bar and Bench report. This approval excludes two-wheelers.
IndiGo is challenging Mahindra’s trademark and seeking relief from the court’s intellectual property division.
