Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari, Interlagos, 2025

Lewis Hamilton remains convinced his move to Ferrari will ultimately pay off following another frustrating weekend at Interlagos.

He failed to make the cut for the top 10 in qualifying for either of last weekend’s races. Although he recovered to finish seventh in the sprint race, the grand prix proved a disappointment, as he was knocked wide at the first corner then sustained damage in a collision with Franco Colapinto.

Hamilton retired in the pits after serving a time penalty for the latter incident. Ferrari scored no points in the grand prix after Charles Leclerc, who qualified third, was taken out in a collision following a Safety Car restart.

The poor result meant Ferrari fell from second place in the constructors’ championship to fourth. However Hamilton said there were some encouraging signs in the team’s performance.

“I think it would be wrong to say that there’s no positives at all,” he told Viaplay. “If you look at Charles’ performance in qualifying, it shows that the car does have some pace in it.

“We’re just really having to fight through those hardships at the moment. I think I have to believe that these hardships lead to… I believe there’s something extraordinary up ahead in my life and in my destiny, and I truly still believe in this team and what we can achieve together. So I just have to keep pushing and keep giving it everything I can.”

Having taken just six points over the last two rounds, Hamilton’s sixth place in the drivers’ championship is increasingly under threat from the driver who took the seat he left at Mercedes, Andrea Kimi Antonelli. The gap between the pair has more than halved, from 53 points to 26, over the last two rounds.
