Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari, Las Vegas Strip Circuit, 2025

A dejected Lewis Hamilton said he felt “terrible” after finishing 10th in the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Having started the race 19th, Hamilton worked his way forward to score a single point. He gained most of those positions on the first lap of the race as several drivers collided in front of him and was unable to pass Nico Hulkenberg’s Sauber for ninth place.

Hamilton finished the race half a minute behind his team mate Charles Leclerc, who came sixth.

“I feel terrible,” Hamilton told Sky after the race. “It’s been the worst season ever.

“No matter how much I try it keeps getting worse. I’m trying everything, in and out of the car.”

Hamilton started the race on the back row of the grid. He failed to complete his final lap in Q1 yesterday after abandoning his lap because he incorrectly believed he had been shown the chequered flag.

He said the car’s balance did not feel good from the start of the race. “I really struggled,” he told the official Formula 1 channel. “After the start I struggled with balance.

“I’m just really struggling with the brakes that we have: locking the fronts, locking the rears, there’s just no in-between. No middle ground. “Then I was catching Hulkenberg but at the slowest pace, so it wasn’t really particularly quick.”

Alexander Albon made contact with Hamilton early in the race, which the Ferrari driver suspects might have affected his car. “I got some damage I think with the Williams and then everything changed after that,” he said.

Over the past half-dozen races Hamilton has taken three eighth-place finishes and a fourth, in Austin. He arrived in Las Vegas having retired from the previous race in Brazil due to damage.

He has often criticised his performances this year, which appeared to provoke a critical reaction from Ferrari CEO John Elkann, who said after the last race Ferrari’s drivers “must focus on driving and talk less.”
