Pierre Gasly, Alpine, Zandvoort, 2025

Pierre Gasly has agreed a new contract with Alpine which will keep him at the Enstone-based team until at least 2028.

He is in his third season with the team, with which he achieved podium finishes at Zandvoort in 2023 and Interlagos last year. However this year has been less successful and the Enstone-based team has fallen to last in the championship standings.

Gasly signed his last contract extension with the team in June 2024, taking him up to the end of next season. His decision to extend his deal for another two years is a vote of confidence in the team which has endured a difficult 12 months.

Alpine has changed team principals twice in that time: this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix is the first for its new managing director Steve Nielsen. It will also change power unit suppliers at the end of the year after owners Renault dismayed its workforce by ending decades of F1 engine development at its plant in Viry-Chatillon. Alpine’s cars will be powered by customer Mercedes engines in 2026.

There has also been change at the top at Renault following the departure of Luca de Meo, who was behind the decision to brand the team as its performance division Alpine from 2021. The return of controversial former team boss Flavio Briatore last year prompted speculation Renault intended to sell its team but new CEO Francois Provost has indicated the manufacturer will remain active in F1.

However Gasly has endorsed the team’s decision to prioritise its development work for next year over its 2025 car and said he believes Alpine is the best option for him. “As a Frenchman, especially, driving for a French car company, makes me feel very proud,” he said. “Since I joined in 2023, I have always felt that this team is the right place to be for the future.”

“Flavio’s support and belief in me, Francois’ commitment to the Formula 1 project, as well as the people we have in Enstone made this a natural decision,” he added, “and I want to be here in years to come and deliver on our joint objective: to win races and world championships.”
