Charles Leclerc, Ferrari, Losail International Circuit, 2025

Charles Leclerc said his Ferrari has no pace after suffering a high-speed spin on his way to qualifying 10th on the grid at Losail.

Sprint race qualifying yesterday began promisingly for Leclerc until he was delayed in the final part of SQ3. Having finished the sprint race in 13th place earlier today, Leclerc said it had been an “incredibly difficult weekend” so far.

“It’s been extremely difficult to drive this car, to keep it on track. I’m trying absolutely everything in order to extract anything I can from that car. But at the moment it’s the only thing that is possible for now, so it’s frustrating.”

He believes there is little chance he will be able to improve his position in tomorrow’s grand prix.

“The best thing I can do is to reset for tomorrow and try to come back at the track motivated and try to do something special. Am I optimistic for tomorrow? I am not.

“Which is quite rare. Normally I’m a very optimistic person, but I have to say that this weekend there’s zero performance in this car.”

“I hope it will work better tomorrow, but nothing that I’ve felt with this car made me think that I will have a better feeling tomorrow,” he added. “So I’ll wait and try to maximise whatever is possible tomorrow with Safety Cars, hopefully we can get a little bit lucky and that’s probably my only hope for tomorrow.”

His team mate Lewis Hamilton failed to escape the first round of qualifying for the third session in a row and will start the race from 17th – where he also finished the sprint race.

Hamilton said he was “generally feeling better” in the car in qualifying. “We made changes, the car was feeling better, I just wasn’t quick.”
