Start, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, 2025

The Canadian Grand Prix will remain on the Formula 1 calendar until at least 2035 after agreeing an extension to its contract.

The promoters of the race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve have agreed their first new contract with F1 in eight years.

F1 announced its new contract with promoter Octane Racing Group, the regional government of Quebec and the government of Canada. The promoters have invested in upgrading the venue’s facilities in recent years. They also agreed a move to an earlier time slot for next year’s race, allowing the event to follow another of F1’s North American rounds, the Miami Grand Prix.

The event promoters said the Canadian Grand Prix is “the biggest event in the country” and generates significant revenue for the local economy. The circuit on the Isle Notre Dame has held Canada’s round of the world championship in most years since 1978. The race was left off the 1987 calendar due to a sponsorship dispute, not held in 2009, and cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

“I would like to thank the promoter, Octane Racing Group, for their continued efforts in upgrading this iconic venue in recent years, and all local, regional, and national political stakeholders who have worked closely together to make this event what it is today,” said F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali. “I would also like to thank our incredible Canadian fans. I look forward to creating more unforgettable moments in Montreal with you over the next 10 years.”

The race’s last contract extension guaranteed its place on the calendar until 2029, but two of the planned events did not go ahead. F1 confirmed the latest contract extension is for four years up to and including the 2035 season.

The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve will hold the seventh round on the 2026 F1 calendar on May 24th, which is the earliest the race has ever been held.
