As India’s electric mobility sector continues to evolve, the CII NexGen Auto Expo 2025 showcased how innovation remains at the heart of this fast-maturing industry. From smart e-bikes to self-driving tractors, startups are redefining what electric transport can do.One of the standout displays came from entrepreneur Alok Das, who, along with his co-founder, developed an e-two-wheeler designed for gig workers. The prototype offers front storage space and an impressive 225kg load capacity—much higher than standard scooters and only slightly less than a pickup truck. The model isn’t just for deliveries; it can be adapted for cold storage to serve blood banks or even equipped with fire extinguishing gear for emergency use in crowded areas.”We produced ten test vehicles, and several delivery, logistics, and food companies are currently trying them out. One unit was even deployed at the Pimpri fire station for a demonstration,” said Das.

Another promising innovation came from Borse Automotive, a startup by young engineers who built an electric autonomous tractor. Designed for farms, it can cover 12 acres or operate for six hours on a single charge, carrying up to 500kg. The company plans to price it between ₹5–18 lakh and has already attracted attention from investors. “We’re completing field tests and will move to production once approvals are in,” said Shekhar Borse, the founder from Nashik.

Adding to the lineup, ElectrikExpress, led by Chintamani Sardesai, introduced a three-wheeler designed like a two-wheeler, specifically for delivery workers. Fifty gig workers are currently testing it and reporting major fuel savings, better safety, and improved storage. Sardesai also plans to add a fintech feature and lease the vehicles to gig workers and delivery chains, offering a sustainable path to affordable electric mobility.
