EV sales show mixed trend in Sept; e-car sales up 160% YoY

New Delhi: Sales of electric vehicles across categories showed a mixed trend in September 2025 with marginal monthly declines but strong annual growth in some segments, according to JMK Research & Analytics.

High-speed electric two-wheeler (E2W) sales were recorded at 1,04,056 units, showing a 0.24 per cent month-on-month decline. The top three manufacturers accounted for around 58 per cent of registrations during the month.

Sales of passenger electric three-wheelers (E3Ws) stood at 52,564 units, down nearly 4 per cent month-on-month and 6.6 per cent lower compared to September 2024. The top eight players had a combined share of 45 per cent.Cargo E3W sales were reported at 8,465 units, registering a 1 per cent decline over August but a 28 per cent rise year-on-year. The top eight players collectively held 36 per cent of the market.In the e-car segment, total sales stood at 15,048 units in September, down 13 per cent compared to the previous month. On a year-on-year basis, however, sales grew by nearly 160 per cent. Tata Motors retained leadership with about 40 per cent share of the market.

E-bus sales in September were reported at 346 units, reflecting a 12 per cent month-on-month decline and 13 per cent lower than the same month last year. Olectra Greentech led the market with a share of 41 per cent, followed by PMI Electro with 24.57 per cent.
