Patna: The district transport officers (DTOs) have been asked to clear all the pending driving licence (DL) and vehicle registration certificate (RCs) cases by Jan 31 or face action.
At a review meeting with the DTOs through videoconferencing on Tuesday, state transport commissioner Arif Ahsan said timely execution of DLs, RCs, permits, hit-and-run and non-hit-and-run claims is necessary as these services are directly connected to the common citizens. He stressed on prioritising cases pending for more than six months.
Ahsan called for daily helmet and seatbelt checkings across all districts, alongside ongoing awareness campaigns. He said the state govt has a zero-tolerance policy on rule violations and strict legal action should be taken against offenders. “Helmets and seatbelts are proven life-savers that significantly reduce serious injuries and fatalities in road accidents,” he said. The commissioner instructed the officials to install mirrors and signage at sharp turns, blind spots, curves, and other locations to improve road safety. He said T-junctions and curves on major highways are particularly susceptible to accidents and stressed the need to install mirrors and signage as well as the application of reflective tape at intersections and on dividers at such locations.Ahsan directed the DTOs to set clear targets to reduce pending DL and RC cases to zero by the end of the month.
Officials told the commissioner that a number of vehicle registration cases were pending at the dealer or agency level. The commissioner ordered the district authorities to hold immediate meetings with the agencies concerned to clear the backlog, warning that failure to comply within the stipulated timeframe could result in the cancellation of dealer or showroom login IDs.
