New Delhi: In the chaos of daily traffic, interceptors were considered a helping hand and the silent watchers of speeding vehicles. They flashed numbers on a screen while traffic police scrambled to catch violators. It was a constant chase—spot, stop and challan. But soon, that may change.Sources said that based on the previous method, nearly 100 interceptors existed. Now, in a bid towards smart traffic management, these traditional interceptors and methods of tracking speeding vehicles can likely become obsolete.DCP (traffic headquarters) Shashank Jaiswal said, “Currently, interceptors only detected speed without issuing challans. But if this experiment succeeds, it will be a complete revamp—our interceptors won’t just issue challans, but will also detect multiple traffic offences in real time. It will be a complete revamp.” With the advent of the AI-powered 4D Radar Interceptor, Delhi traffic police aims to make this entire process automated, and the experiment has already started. The advanced interceptor, equipped with radars, sensors, cameras and rule-based software algorithms, not only detects speeding in real time but also immediately registers the violation. It can identify traffic violations like speeding, driving without a seatbelt, mobile phone.
