Stage 3 restrictions include a ban on non-essential construction work, limits on the use of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers, and a shift to hybrid learning for classes up to grade V.

The air quality in Delhi showed marginal improvement on Sunday, prompting the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to hold off on implementing stricter measures under Stage 3 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).The CAQM’s sub-committee on GRAP met on Sunday evening to review the situation after the city’s daily average Air Quality Index (AQI) remained at the higher end of the ‘very poor’ category earlier in the day. According to PTI, the panel said Delhi’s hourly average AQI stood at 391 at 10 am, before improving to 370 by 4 pm and 365 by 5 pm.Forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) suggest that the overall air quality is likely to remain in the ‘very poor’ range in the coming days.

Considering the gradual improvement and meteorological predictions, the CAQM decided not to invoke Stage 3 restrictions at this stage. Measures under Stage 1 and Stage 2 will continue to remain in force across the National Capital Region (NCR).

Stage 3 restrictions include a ban on non-essential construction work, limits on the use of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers, and a shift to hybrid learning for classes up to grade V.The CAQM said it will continue to closely monitor the air quality situation and review the curbs as required.
Unfavourable weather, vehicle emissions, paddy-straw burning, and firecracker use typically push Delhi-NCR’s air quality to hazardous levels during the winter months.
