CNG supply in Mumbai was disrupted on Sunday following damage to a main gas pipeline operated by GAIL, PTI reported. Mahanagar Gas (MGL) said the incident affected gas flow to its City Gate Station (CGS) at Wadala, impacting CNG availability across the network.

A large share of the city’s autorickshaws, taxis—including those operated by ride-hailing firms—and several buses run by public transport undertakings rely on CNG supplied by MGL.

The company said it had prioritised piped natural gas for residential consumers, ensuring home supply continues despite the disruption.

Industrial and commercial users asked to shift to alternate fuel

MGL said CNG stations in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai, including facilities dedicated to public transport, may not operate due to the stoppage of supply at CGS Wadala.

The company did not specify how soon normal supply would resume. It also did not provide details on what caused the damage within the Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers (RCF) premises, where the GAIL pipeline is located.

MGL has advised industrial and commercial customers in affected areas to switch to alternate fuel sources until repairs are completed.

“Gas supplies across MGL’s network will normalise once the damage is rectified and supply is restored to CGS Wadala,” the company said, adding that it regretted the inconvenience.>
