Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture under the Union ministry of power, has proposed a series of advanced energy efficiency initiatives in collaboration with Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL).The key proposal includes setting up small-scale solar plants (0.3-10 MW) near substations to strengthen local grids and improve rural power reliability. Other initiatives include electric vehicle charging infrastructure under a revenue-sharing model and deploying EVs for government use under the national e-mobility programme.During a meeting at APEPDCL’s corporate office in Visakhapatnam, CMD Pruthvitej Immadi and EESL CEO Akhilesh Kumar Dixit discussed a roadmap for clean energy technologies aimed at enhancing consumer services and promoting sustainable growth.EESL also plans to roll out energy-efficient appliances – LED bulbs, BLDC fans, super-efficient air conditioners, and induction cooktops – across APEPDCL offices and substations. Officials noted that APEPDCL is among India’s top-performing DISCOMs in energy efficiency implementation.

Under the UJALA scheme, Andhra Pradesh saves 2,863 million kWh annually, translating to 1,145 crore in cost savings and an avoided peak demand of 573 MW. Nationally, EESL’s interventions have saved 47,882 million kWh and 19,153 crore, with AP contributing nearly 6% of total savings.

Visakhapatnam’s early adoption of LED street lighting post-Hudhud cyclone in 2014 became a national model, replicated in cities like Varanasi, Jaipur, Surat, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai. The “Vizag model” earned global recognition, including commendation at a BRICS conference.
