Oliver Bearman, Haas, Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, 2025

Oliver Bearman dismissed claims he could be in line to replace Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari in the future, after he claimed his best result to date at the last round in Mexico.

The official Formula 1 website suggested Bearman is “the heir apparent to Hamilton at Ferrari” after he finished fourth at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. However the Haas driver, who was promoted to F1 by Ferrari, isn’t considering the possibility he could replace the seven-times champion one day.

“One weekend they’re saying this, but then when the previous weekend doesn’t go well, they’re saying the opposite,” he said. “The media like their headlines and stuff like that, and of course it was a great weekend and I’m very happy to have done that, but I’m not really bothered about it.

“I just try and keep my head down, focus on continuing to have those good results and deliver good points for the team as well.”

Having reached Q3 in Mexico, and moved up to sixth place on the first lap, Bearman took advantage of a skirmish between Hamilton, Max Verstappen and George Russell to briefly run in the top three. He slipped back to fourth place at the finish.

Although Haas’s recent upgrade has improved the performance of the VF-25, Bearman does not expect to compete for similar results over the remaining races.

“Of course it was a good weekend,” he told the official F1 channel, “but I think we have to be realistic in saying that that’s not… I don’t think we’re going to come to the next four races and expect to be fighting in the top four, top five.

“It was, of course, a lucky result to have things play out as they did. But we also had really good pace, particularly in the race on Sunday in Mexico and that can definitely be transferred forward. But our goal, definitely for the next four races, is to be in the points.”
