Lewis Hamilton is complaining the track is covered with debris.

This will have major ramifications for the championship

The sprint race is go! Max Verstappen leads and the McLaren drivers have collided! George Russell is up to seconds place.

The drivers are formed up on the grid ready for the start.

All the drivers will start the race on the medium compound tyres.

Today is forecast to be the hottest day of the weekend. It’s already 30C at the circuit and the track temperature is 43C.

With half an hour to go until the start the drivers are heading out of the pits to perform reconnaissance laps.

The full starting grid for today’s race can be found here.

The biggest surprise of qualifying was surely Nico Hulkenberg, who out his Sauber fourth on the grid. If he scores points today it will be the first time he has done so since his podium finish at Silverstone.

Max Verstappen took pole position for the sprint race ahead of Lando Norris. The pair also claimed the front row for the grand prix 12 months ago, but with the McLaren driver on pole position. Verstappen dived down the inside of Norris at the first corner and pushed him off the track at the exit – will Norris get away as well today, and will he be as forceful? Championship leader Oscar Piastri, who starts third, will be lurking to take advantage of any incident.
