This session has finished. No further updates will be posted.

So against some expectations Leclerc ends second practice on top. Here’s our report from the session.

No further action on Tsunoda, say the stewards.

The chequered flag is out and Leclerc is fastest again.

Bits of advertising banner are being torn from the barriers and falling onto the track. Drivers raised this problem last year – Lando Norris had to abandon a qualifying run when a large piece got stuck in his car – but it seems nothing has been done about it.

Another post-session investigation has been announced – Tsunoda may not have slowed down sufficiently for yellow flags.

Max Verstappen has gone straight on at Mirabeau. He reverses out and continues.

The session did not have to be red-flagged for that and the yellow flags have now been brought in.

Hadjar is unimpressed with himself after hitting a barrier for a second time. This time it was at Sainte Devote. “Man, I am so stupid,” he says. “I think I am just dumb.” His rear suspension is seriously askew so although he’s made it back to the pits he’s unlikely to continue in this session.

Alonso is unhappy his rivals are cutting the chicane: “No one is doing turn 10. It’s do distracting. Why they miss the corner? Why are you allowed to?”

Norris improves to go 0.322s off Leclerc. Hamilton, third, acknowledges he has half a second to find. Then it’s Alonso and Albon. Verstappen, sixth, again has his curious absence of Friday pace, which he was asked about yesterday.

Norris has gone second but is the best part of half a second off Leclerc, who has lowered his best time to a 1’11.355.

Leclerc switches to softs and produces a 1’11.414 to head the times. That’s the fastest time of the day so far but a tenth of a second off his best from this session last year.

A near-miss for Pierre Gasly on the way up the hill. “That Aston almost put me in the wall.”

Oliver Bearman is under investigation for an incident during one of the red flags.

Alonso goes quickest on softs with a 1’12.087. Hamilton pips it on mediums but they’re still slower than the best times from first practice.

More drivers on soft tyres now as the session restarts for a second time. Alexander Albon will be one of the first to set a time.

Piastri’s hit the barrier at Sainte Devote. he’s lost his front wing but he’s able to get going. The session has been red-flagged again.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli doesn’t quite manage to beat that, he goes second, but Leclerc puts in a great lap on his hards to lead the times by over four tenths of a second.

Oscar Piastri sets a new benchmark with a 1’12.548 so he is 0.197s ahead of Lewis Hamilton.

The track fills up again. Drivers are mostly picking up where they left off on their runs from before, most on medium rubber.

The drivers are queued up ready to restart the session.

The good news for Hadjar is he’s been able to limp back to the pits with his damaged wheel so he may be able to get back out in this session.

Second practice lasted about as long without a red flag as first practice did.

Isack Hadjar’s clipped the barrier at the chicane, he’s damaged his left-rear wheel. The red flags are out.

Max Verstappen takes another second off that, he’s down to a 1’12.922 on mediums.

Alexander Albon lops a second off the best time on mediums, having been fourth in the opening hour.

Hamilton sets a 1’14.962 on mediums, Leclerc goes five-hundredths of a second quicker on hards. These times are three seconds off the best from first practice.

Second practice is go in Monaco. Lap times in first practice were two-tenths of a second faster than last year, since when a substantial chunk of the track has been resurfaced. The new asphalt runs from Tabac to Massenet.

Leclerc was fastest in first practice today. He headed second practice last year and took the all-important pole position, but since the weekend began he’s insisted Ferrari’s poor form in qualifying this season is likely to continue here.

One major change of note since the opening session: Lance Stroll has been given a one-place grid penalty for his collision with Charles Leclerc. Here’s all the details.

Second practice for the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix is coming up next.
