Franco Colapinto, Alpine, Red Bull Ring, 2025

Alpine’s executive consultant and acting team principal Flavio Briatore described their performance as “increasingly concerning” after they failed to score again last weekend.

The team has only scored once in the last five rounds. It has fallen to last in the constructors’ championship.

“We have lost ground to our direct rivals in the Championship after another race without scoring points and, frankly, this level of performance is increasingly concerning,” said Briatore.

Pierre Gasly has taken all of the team’s points so far this year. Briatore replaced his original team mate Jack Doohan with Franco Colapinto after round six, on what the team originally described as a five-round evaluation.

However Briatore indicated he felt both drivers should have qualified further up the grid in Austria. Gasly reached Q3 but qualified 10th after going off on his final lap, while Colapinto lined up 14th. Both drivers finished the race lower than they started.

“Yesterday the car was quick and [we] should have been well inside Q3 with two cars,” said Briatore. “Sundays are a very different story for us and it is important we understand why this is, especially if we want to turn this season around from this difficult position.”

Gasly started the race on soft tyres and ran as high as sixth after lap one. However he complained of a lack of overall grip and suspected his car might have picked up damage.

Colapinto was knocked into a spin by Yuki Tsunoda and collected a penalty for forcing Oscar Piastri off the track while the McLaren driver was lapping him. He finished 15th, two places behind his team mate.

Alpine is now 15 points behind its closest championship rival, Sauber, which has scored in each of the last three races.
